Sooke Hospice
In the mid-1980’s, a small group of volunteers in Sooke began planning for a supportive hospice program to serve their community.

The group included volunteers, a physician, a home care nurse and a liaison counsellor from Victoria Hospice.

The group considered the special needs of the Sooke population, and the value that in-home support would have for people who would be reluctant to leave their community and receive care in a hospital or other facility far from home.

But the program of care that Sooke Hospice has developed remains uniquely appropriate to its community’s needs. The team of Home Care Nurses, physicians, volunteers, Community Health Workers, and counselling support works together to assess and fulfill the needs of patients and family members.

Volunteer training for Sooke is provided by Sooke Hospice in the community.
